On 30th May 2026, six students and one teacher from St. George’s School along with their friends and other teachers gathered at Brunei’s Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport. They were to depart to Japan to visit Kanto Gakuin Mutsuura Junior-Senior High School in Yokohama from 31 May to 10 June 2026, as part of the ongoing student exchange program between the two schools, with this marking the second visit from St. George’s school.
When they arrived at the school, they were greeted warmly by the enthusiastic Japanese students and teachers. A highlight of the program was the students’ stay with foster families, who treated them with the utmost hospitality and love. The St. George’s Students also had class immersion activities with the Japanese students, as well as exploring various places together with them, such as Kamakura and Asakusa. Despite the tropical storm Jangmi forcing KGM to close for a day, it did not stop the students from enjoying their time at the school and with the foster families.
Other than school-based activities, the group also went to various places on their own, such as the Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, Tokyo DisneySea and Nissan Headquarters. On the final night, they also paid a visit to the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Tokyo, which welcomed them with open arms.
Although the trip was tiring, the students had made many memories that would last a lifetime, and were deeply saddened when they had to return to Brunei. The exchange program yet again proved to be a huge success, as the St. George’s students had not just learnt about Japanese culture and lifestyle, but had also lived it, and the values they learnt would remain with them perennially.
