One of the post-PSR activities for Year 6 students was to reward them with a two-day motivational camp held at the Star Lodge, Jerudong on 7th and 8th of November 2014. According to the camp organiser Ms Alice Ting, the Head of Primary, the main purpose of organising this event was not only to establish better relationship among teachers and students but also to prepare students for transition into secondary education.
7th November 2014 was a day that Primary 6 students, the class of 2014, were waiting excitedly and readily for. It was the first day of the Motivational camp for them. The president of the school Board, Bishop Cornelius Sim officiated at the opening ceremony with the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Anthony Liew, the Principal, Mr Janidi Jingan, the Deputy Principal, Mr MN Mubarak, the Head of Primary, Ms Alice Ting, teachers and staff in attendance. It was a camp full of fun and creative activities to mould the pupils into better individuals.
But the highlight of the camp was the Graduation Night in the evening for 78 Year 6 pupils. It was a night to remember and cherish for all the primary 6 graduates of SGS! The Guest of Honour for the night was Hjh Nooradinawati bte Hj Zakaria, the education Officer, Private Education Section, Ministry of Education. Also in attendance were the Chairman of Board of Governors, Mr. Anthony Liew and spouse, members of the school Board, Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Primary, teachers, parents and students.
Accompanied by the symphonic sounds of the "Graduation march" and the proud smiles of the Head of Primary Ms. Alice Ting and the class teachers Cg. Malai Salmah and Mr. Bernard Lim, the primary 6 students marched down the aisle of Star Lodge banquet hall to commence the St. George"s School Primary Graduation Ceremony. It was held on the 7th of November, 2014 at 7.30 pm. It was the first time a graduation night was celebrated for the primary 6 Students and was an overwhelming success with about 150 parents and family members present.
The event honored students who completed Primary 6 during the year 2014. The program included the presentation of prizes for the top three achievers in the school exams and the giving away of the graduate certificates. Family and friends sat in the hall with cameras, cell phones and iPads in hand, eager to see their children and document the momentous occasion: their child"s second graduation. The entertainment added spice to the ceremony; a modern dance, Nasyid and the Indian dance were indeed a treat to the eye.
But what brought beams and tears to the eyes of the primary teachers is the farewell speech given by Cely Jelita, a representative for the primary 6 students and the farewell song sung by all the young graduates. It reflected a grateful heart and sincere thanks. It was a meaningful, joyful and colourful night.
This special celebration helps children experience a milestone event and motivate them to move confidently into secondary level of education.
The motivational Camp ended on Saturday afternoon, with an awe-inspiring farewell. The students were given an ornamental piece as a gift of remembrance to every student; they embraced teachers and each other with tearful eyes and cherished memories.
