On the morning of 12th June, 2025, the heat could be felt — not just from the sun, but from the friendly rivalry between the houses. Excitement and team spirit filled the air as students, teachers, and family members gathered at the Berakas Sports Complex for St. George’s School’s 34th Annual Secondary Sports Meet.
The day started off with the students marching proudly past the Grand Stand, dressed in their respective house colours, with each house putting on energetic cheer performances. The contingent of students was led by Head Boy of the school, Afif Hazwan, while the recital of ‘Ikrar Sukan’, The Oath of Sportsmanship, was led by Mamat Bishwakarma of Year 10.
The principal of the school, Mr Janidi Jingan, took the opportunity in his opening speech to expound on the milestone that is the 34th Annual Sports Meet. It is such a precious time for students to step out of the classroom and, as the principal aptly surmises, “experience the power of teamwork, effort and the spirit of friendly rivalry.” The event was then formally officiated by the ringing of the gong by the Guest of Honour, Mr Freddy Ho Mun Wai.
Soon enough, the athletes were lined up on the tracks where they sprinted with energy and determination to win for their houses. Joining the secondary students, various runners from Year 4, 5 and 6 also displayed their own athleticism in several track events. When it came time for the final round of Tug-Of-War, the athletes put serious effort into the game, displaying their coordination and teamwork as their friends cheered out loud with enthusiasm.
The stadium buzzed with anticipation as the time came to finally announce the winners. The Best Female Athlete of 2025 was Swara Sachin Pingle of Blue House while Mamat Bishwakarma of Green House was titled as Best Male Athlete of 2025. Red House won Tug of War Girls Category with their incredible strength and hard work and Blue House claimed the trophy for Tug of War Boys Category.
Lastly, after all the points had been tallied, it was the combined efforts and dedication of Blue House that managed to earn themselves the title of Champion.
Beyond all the showcase of the athletic talents — this event brought out teamwork, determination and team spirit among students. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers, students and staff who worked hard to make this day a memorable and enjoyable one.
