The IET Brunei Young Professional Section (YPS) with the collaboration of the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) Brunei conducted the preliminary rounds of IET Do-It-Yourself Faraday Challenge 2019 at University of Technology Brunei (UTB) Concourse on 7th April 2019.

St. George's School (SGS) was among the five schools that competed in the activity. Each team comprising six secondary students was given a task to design and build an innovative prototype than could transport an object from one place to another with a theme of "Mission to Mars". The exercise gave the students some insights into the roles and responsibilities of an engineering team, as they were required to explain their ideas, costs and implementation plans to a panel of judges.

The winning team of the preliminary rounds won $120 and were qualified to compete in the regional finals with schools from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The aim of the activity is to give students the opportunity to research, design and make prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems by using creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills. This is in-line with the IET Brunei vision and mission in promoting the general advancement od Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and to share information and ideas on these subjects amongst the general public especially students.
